Dec. 20, 2016 (Ottawa) – HealthCareCAN congratulates Dr. Alain Beaudet on his upcoming retirement as President & CEO of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
As the country’s premier health research granting council, CIHR has generated new knowledge that saves lives, improves the quality of life of individuals with disease and disability, and brings economic opportunity to our country. Dr. Beaudet has championed the importance of this mission through a difficult fiscal period. We thank Dr. Beaudet for his tenure and leadership of this important organization.
Dr. Beaudet held the reins at CIHR through a decade in which the demands of science and research in our knowledge-based economy have increased enormously, while the funding for its costs have not. Dr. Beaudet has steadfastly maintained his commitment to deliver the full mandate of CIHR, supported outstanding researchers to the fullest extent possible, and achieved extraordinary outcomes. He has reached out frequently and sincerely to HealthCareCAN, its members, and the newly formed H10 as the voice of the country’s research hospitals, in an effort to better understand how CIHR could be of service of our community.
HealthCareCAN, as the national voice of patient care organizations and the country’s research hospitals, looks forward to supporting the new or interim president of this key organization. We thank Dr. Beaudet and all staff at CIHR for their continued efforts, and wish them the very best in the transition and in the new year.
HealthCareCAN is the national voice of healthcare organizations and hospitals across Canada. We foster informed and continuous, results-oriented discovery and innovation across the continuum of healthcare. We act with others to enhance the health of the people of Canada; to build the capability for high quality care; and to help ensure value for money in publicly financed, healthcare programs.
