Sept. 26, 2017 (Ottawa) – HealthCareCAN applauds the Prime Minister and the Minister of Science decision to appoint Dr. Mona Nemer as Chief Science Advisor.
“Dr. Nemer’s stellar reputation and tremendous achievements has earned her the respect of her peers and of the scientific and the health research community,” said Paul-Émile Cloutier, President and CEO of HealthCareCAN. “We are encouraged by the commitment the federal government is giving to science and this appointment is a positive step towards reinstating the importance of scientific endeavours in Canadian policies and actions.”
HealthCareCAN looks forward to working with Dr. Nemer and offers its assistance to help in fulfilling her mandate, in particular “to provide impartial scientific advice on key issues with science or research components of relevance to Canada.”
Combined with the direction provided by Canada’s Fundamental Science Review Report earlier this year and today’s announcement, the path for elevating sciences and health research is well drawn. “As the national voice for research hospitals and health organizations across Canada, HealthCareCAN is exceptionally hopeful that restorative funding for sciences and research will be announced in the near future,” concluded Mr. Cloutier.
HealthCareCAN is the national voice of healthcare organizations and hospitals across Canada. We foster informed and continuous, results-oriented discovery and innovation across the continuum of healthcare. We act with others to enhance the health of the people of Canada; to build the capability for high quality care; and to help ensure value for money in publicly financed, healthcare programs.
