The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) offers hands-on, technology-based education and applied research that is essential to the productivity and prosperity of Alberta. NAIT offers over 120 credit programs leading to degrees, applied degrees, diplomas and certificates to 16,000 students in science, technology, and the environment; health; skilled trades; and business, including new venture and commercialization.

NAIT’s School of Health and Life Sciences has a rich tradition of educating allied health care professionals. Graduates of the school play a vital role in communities, filling a wide range of essential clinical and support roles in facilities across Alberta and beyond.

With approximately 1,092 students and 200 staff, the School delivers 18 certificate and diploma programs encompassing diverse curricula in the professional fields of Animal Health, Dental Health, Diagnostic Imaging, Diagnostic Laboratory, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Transcription, Personal Fitness, and Respiratory Therapy.  The School maintains several industry partnerships for current relevance and future growth opportunities, including student placements within a work-integrated learning framework.

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the senior academic and administrative officer of the School of Health and Life Sciences and is a member of the senior leadership team of NAIT. This position is responsible for the oversight of all academic and administrative functions within the School. The Dean provides strategic leadership to promote the School’s commitment to excellence in teaching and applied research and will be a strong advocate for the School as well as a builder of collaborative relationships both internally and externally to NAIT.

The successful candidate possesses a master’s degree in a relevant field of study and/or has demonstrated organizational leadership experience in the academic, corporate or public sectors, ideally in healthcare. A visionary leader, he/she has diverse knowledge of Alberta’s allied health care system, instructional experience, and experience leading a large, complex organization.  Passionate about student success, he/she has championed applied research and innovation activities, and built lasting relationships and partnerships in support of the academic mission.
