Kenora is a rural community located in the most western reaches of Northwestern Ontario and is a popular summer tourist destination. Northwestern Ontario is known for pristine lakes, 14,000 islands, tall pines, glorious sunsets, northern lights, and diverse fish and wildlife. Kenora has active sports, arts, and education facilities and boasts an exceptional and diverse local food and farmers market scene.
The City of Kenora is the second largest health care center in northwestern Ontario after Thunder Bay. The population served by health care facilities and services in Kenora comprises city residents, 12 First Nation communities surrounding Kenora, as well as a significant seasonal summer population. The health service area has over 32,000 permanent year-round residents and can reach as high as 70,000 in the summer months.
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital is an 84 bed facility with multiple core programs as well as a broad range of strong diagnostic services, counselling and rehabilitation. The health centre is also surrounded by multiple local health care support agencies that partner with the hospital to enhance community service and a wellness approach to good living.
The President & Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the day to day operation of the health facility and is active with the foundation in raising funds for the health centre. The ideal candidate for this unique facility is a visionary leader with a community development focus complemented by a strong cultural competency for working with our unique and diverse demographic. An excellent communicator and relationship builder, you will build lasting and cooperative relationships with all stakeholders including employees, physicians, union representatives, the board, the foundation, government representatives and our local community including First Nations, Metis representatives, the media and our health care neighbours in Manitoba.
The successful candidate will have a solid track record and reputation for building a harmonious organizational culture that can capture the renewed energy currently being exhibited by the board and the community. You will have proven experience and expertise in transformative change, an eagerness to bring your skills to the enhancement of patient care and a spirit of cooperation as the concept of an all nation’s health system in NW Ontario and a new facility comes to fruition.
Experience & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Health or Public Administration or equivalent
- 5+ years of senior health care management experience ideally in a hospital environment
- Certified Healthcare Executive (CHE) preferred
- Member of a Professional College such as the Canadian College of Health Care Executives (CCHSE)
- Good working knowledge of not-for-profit and healthcare governance models
- Understanding of government, policy, programming & funding models related to the Ontario health system
- Indigenous cultural competency and understanding that supports key relationships in NW Ontario is a definite asset
