In keeping with its new strategic direction (CMA 2020), the Canadian Medical Association is making physician health and wellness a top priority. In the months and years ahead, the CMA will be dedicating significant resources to promote physician wellness as a key pillar of a vibrant profession. The CMA will not be doing this alone; it will be partnering with organizations across the country and around the world to develop strategies across the continuum of a physician’s career; from medical training through practice.
With the full support of the Board of Directors, reporting to the CEO, and as the CMA’s inaugural Vice President, Physician Health & Wellness, you will have the mandate and resources to think strategically and to exponentially transform how physicians care for their patients and themselves. You will create the tools and strategies to enhance physician health and wellness, with the goal of having measurable impact at individual and collective levels. You will lead the development of a national strategy as part of CMA 2020 that would leverage CMA in policy and advocacy to influence health system change to support the medical profession. Driving down rates of burnout, depression, substance abuse, etc. will require exceptional skills and leadership, as well as a deep appreciation for the many challenges and pressures facing the practice of medicine.
Your success as the inaugural Vice President will have widespread appeal and lead to significant improvements. In this role, you will impact the lives of your medical colleagues, improve healthcare team dynamics, and ultimately drive better quality of care.
As the ideal candidate, you are a respected physician leader with a compelling vision and passion for the practice of medicine and the wellbeing of your colleagues. Your commitment to physician health and wellness is deeply rooted; you are engaged and actively pursuing strategies to promote physician health and wellness; you are leading novel initiatives and innovations; you are conducting research, publishing, and presenting extensively on the topic. As a thought leader and authority, you see the issue through an individual, physician lens as well as a holistic, systems lens, appreciating that there are many inter-connected factors at play, including physical, psychological, emotional, social, environmental, occupational, professional, and intellectual.
If you are interested in championing one of the CMA’s most important initiatives in the years ahead, we would like to hear from you. Please forward your CV and cover letter in confidence to Michael Naufal and John Caminiti at firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com. Please include “VP Physician Health & Wellness” in the subject line of your e-mail.
We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those under consideration for the role will be contacted.
