The CHEO Research Institute coordinates the research activities of CHEO and is one of the research institutes affiliated with the University of Ottawa (uOttawa). Reporting to and supporting the Research Institute (RI) Board of Directors, the CEO & Scientific Director is supported by RI Program Directors and a team of Scientists responsible for specific research portfolios within the RI, as well as the RI’s operations team that manages the performance of the RI’s financial, human and operational resources. CHEO’s Vice President, Research is a key member of CHEO’s executive team and reports to CHEO’s President & CEO, ensuring the RI’s strategic alignment with the Hospital’s strategy, and he/she actively participates in all hospital-wide matters, including strategy, general operations, finances, quality, risk management, performance management, human resources, information technology, etc.
As CHEO’s research leader, you champion an aspirational vision for research that cuts across the RI and CHEO, from bench to bedside, providing strategic direction and leadership to achieve that vision. With a focus on improving patient and family-centered care and outcomes, you promote, support and drive efforts to integrate research, learning and clinical practice. As the ambassadorial face and trusted voice of research at CHEO, you play an important advocacy and stakeholder relations role, building support and strong ties with the CHEO Foundation, other research institutes and uOttawa. You also establish and maintain critical relationships with governments, elected officials and policy makers, as well as a range of funding partners, granting bodies and donors at the local, provincial, national and international levels.
Your record of scientific and organizational leadership has now prepared you to lead one of the world’s most respected and comprehensive pediatric health research institutes. As the ideal candidate, you are a respected, strategic leader with a compelling global vision for child health research. You have a track record of scientific achievement and are considered by your peers to be a credible leader in your field, and an authoritative voice and advocate for health research. Your exceptional problem-solving skills have served you well in leading a complex research enterprise, as has your ability to exercise sound judgment and to motivate and inspire individuals and teams to excel.
