June 11, 2019 (Toronto) – HealthCareCAN is proud to announce internationally-respected surgical educator Dr. Richard Reznick as the recipient of the 2019 Legacy of Leadership award.
Presented at the 2019 National Health Leadership Conference in Toronto, the prestigious award recognizes exceptional individuals who have made long-lasting and outstanding contributions to advancing Canada’s health system and have demonstrated significant and sustained commitment toward the enhancement of the health of Canadians.
“Dr. Reznick has contributed greatly to the field of medical education,” said Paul-Émile Cloutier, President and CEO of HealthCareCAN. “His globally-recognized work in improving the quality of health care reflects a rich and powerful set of skills and talent that personify this award.”
An accomplished academic in medical education, Dr. Reznick completed his medical degree at McGill University and later graduated from the general-surgery training program at the University of Toronto. He then went on to complete his Master of Education at Southern Illinois University, followed by a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the University of Texas in Houston.
In addition to his work in advancing surgical education and training, Dr. Reznick is also an accomplished general and colorectal surgeon. Throughout his illustrious career Dr. Reznick has led several ground-breaking initiatives, including founding the Centre for Research in Education at University Health Network, and leading the development of the first objective structured clinical examination at the Medical Council of Canada.
Most recently, he has led the charge for competency-based medical education, making Queen’s the first university in Canada to fully deploy this new methodology across all of its specialty programs.
Dr. Reznick has been previously recognized for his work by numerous organizations such as the Medical Council of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada,
and most recently, he was the recipient of McGill University’s Medicine Alumni Global Award for Lifetime Achievement.
