The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) has a unique role in BC’s health authority system: to ensure that BC residents have access to a coordinated provincial network of high-quality specialized health-care services. PHSA works in partnership with the province’s health authorities and health-care professionals to improve access to evidence-informed practice closer to where people live and to effectively promote health, manage chronic conditions and reduce the burden of illness. With a $3.6 billion annual operating budget and more than 24,000 employees across the province, PHSA takes a population-specific and patient-centred and evidence based approach to care, in support of BC’s health care system goals.
An incredible opportunity exists to work for one of Canada’s most progressive health authorities. In this newly created and evolving role, you will report directly to the President & CEO and attend PHSA Board meetings in an executive capacity. While the mandate and the scope of the role will be reviewed with the incumbent and may expand in scope, you will have the opportunity to improve healthcare in BC for the populations served directly by PHSA and in the capacity of PHSA’s broader provincial mandate. In addition, you will work collaboratively with province-wide partners to transform the health system and effect positive change. You will be a strong clinical voice to the executive table leading the establishment of an integrated medical governance structure and representing PHSA interests with the Ministry of Health and external partners on all matters related to medical affairs. You will assume responsibility and accountability for the overall leadership and governance of the medical staff and for the high quality of medical care provided to those served by PHSA.
You will support administrative and physician leaders to deliver PHSA’s specialized programs and services province-wide. These include services delivered directly by PHSA: Laboratory Services, BC Cancer, BC Center for Disease Control, BC Mental Health and Substance Use, BC Emergency Health Services, BC Women’s Hospital, and BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children. They also include planning, coordination, and evaluation services such as BC Transplant, BC Renal, Cardiac Services BC, Trauma Services BC, Trans Care BC, Stroke Services BC, Child Health BC, and Perinatal Services BC. An advisor to the Board and CEO, you will contribute insight and experience to: optimizing specialty service delivery; strategic and medical planning; encouraging person centered care; and increasing physician human resource and administration capability. You are also open to other aspects of this significant leadership role as the priorities of healthcare evolve.
You are likely currently registered or eligible for registration with the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons and may also possess a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration or a closely related health care discipline. You have at least 10 years of leadership experience in a large complex healthcare or academic institution with clinical credibility and a strong track record of collaboration and systems improvement. If appropriate, you may maintain your relevant clinical practice.
