Department Information

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) offers challenging and exciting careers in health and social services delivery and administration in Canada’s North. Job Information

The Northwest Territories (NWT) is made up of 1.17 million square kilometres of mountains, forests and tundra threaded by wild, clean rivers feeding thousands of pristine lakes. The territory starts at the 60th Parallel and extends into the Arctic Ocean and reaches beyond the Arctic Circle. More than 40,000 people call the NWT home.

The population of the NWT is multicultural and diverse. With brilliant blue skies most of the year, the NWT is the best place on earth to enjoy the aurora borealis and the midnight sun. Tourists from around the globe visit to experience the rugged outdoor activities and scenery. The summers seem endless with extended daylight throughout the summer season. During the winter months there is no better place to watch the world’s best northern lights dance.

Located in Yellowknife, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is a key leader in Northwest Territories health and social services delivery as the most senior administrative position of NTHSSA. The incumbent is accountable for executive leadership of the overall operation and supervises the executive team of NTHSSA.

The CEO reports to and takes direction from the Chair of Health and Social Services Leadership Council. The CEO is responsible for leading the establishment of an organizational culture that promotes innovation, continuous program and service improvement and effective change management. In addition, the incumbent must have experience supporting and building strong working relationships with a Board of Directors, be able to effectively collaborate with the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), professional organizations, Indigenous governments, municipal and community governments, GNWT departments, and external delivery partners such as Alberta Health Services to ensure effective sharing and use of information and best practice

This level of knowledge, skill and ability is typically acquired through the completion of industry appropriate academic credentials at a Master’s level degree in areas related to Health, Social Services, Public Administration or Business Administration with 15 years of progressively more responsible experience in Health Administration including five years senior leadership experience in a related environment of similar scope and complexity is required. A Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) would be an asset.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is approximately $229,015- $286,269 per annum, including relocation, plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3700.00
