IWK Health is an internationally recognized and respected academic health sciences centre located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, providing tertiary and primary care for two million women, children, youth and families across the Atlantic region. We are seeking a Vice President, Research & Innovation to lead the execution of a new strategic direction, and support our talented and dedicated research teams in their foundational and leading-edge work.
Reporting to the President & CEO, you will be a member of a dynamic and highly collaborative Executive Leadership Team, contributing to the implementation of the IWK’s strategic and operational plans. This work is enabled by over 3000 employees, 250 physicians and a research community of 700+ investigators, staff, trainees and students.
Over the past two years, the IWK Health has embarked on the development of an ambitious new Research Strategy, informed by extensive stakeholder input, with goals that include:
- Delivering research grounded in reconciliation, diversity and inclusion that addresses health equity
- Growing our climate of inquiry, research and innovation
- Strengthening research talent development
- Catalyzing research that informs population health, clinical practice, policy and health systems
Working in partnership with senior leaders, clinicians, researchers and industry, you will help the IWK bring this vision to reality by supporting our teams in implement research and evidence-based science that improves care and patient/population health outcomes. Your national lens will ensure we realize the benefits of federal funding partnerships and health research system collaboration.
As the ideal candidate, you are an MD or PhD research scientist with a track record of research excellence, augmented with strong senior leadership experience in a complex, academic health science centre environment. You have effectively led the development and implementation of strategic research plans and knowledge translation activities, strengthened through partnerships and collaboration. A true systems thinker and collaborator, you are excited by the opportunity to play a key leadership role at an organization leading globally in research, innovation and knowledge sharing that directly improves the health and well-being of women, children and families throughout the Maritimes and across the world.
