Labour Relations Officer

The Health Sciences Association of Saskatchewan (HSAS) is a union representing more than 4,000 Health Care Professionals, who work within the Saskatchewan Health Authority, several privately owned ambulance services in Saskatchewan, and at Canadian Blood Services in Regina. We were founded in 1972, by a group of dedicated professionals who believed that the unique interests of the varied and specialized professions would be best represented by a separate, independent union.

Labour Relations Officer

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Labour Relations Officer (LRO) is accountable for guiding and supporting member needs and for ensuring the individual and collective rights of members are achieved and maintained. The position will provide a wide range of labour relations services to the Executive Director, Executive Council and to union membership regarding the representation of members’ rights, entitlements, and interests with respect to the interpretation and application of collective agreements, labour-related legislation, employer policies, and other employment standards, occupational health and safety and human rights issues.

The successful candidate will bring considerable knowledge of labour and employee relations including collective agreement interpretation and administration, labour and employment case law, labour and employment legislation and policy interpretation, coupled with a track record of effective relationship building.  They will be at ease communicating in all modes and with a broad array of internal and external stakeholders.

The LRO will be a trusted, analytical thinker whose passion and purpose reflect HSAS’s Objects.  They must be a generalist, a strong communicator, flexible and dynamic, with well-developed negotiation skills.  They must be respectful of HSAS’s membership, Executive Council and Board, always seeking to understand the membership from a practice lens.

The likely candidate will possess the following:

  • Post-secondary degree in Labour Relations or combination of training and education.
  • Labour Relations experience within a health care setting is considered an asset.
  • Experience within a labour organization is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the province using own vehicle.
