Since 1908 the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) has served as the national and global voice for Canadian nursing. CNA is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who embodies vision, innovation, and critical thinking, having developed creative solutions to intricate challenges in a diverse, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.
Reporting to and collaborating closely with CNA’s Board of Directors, the CEO shapes and implements short-and long-term strategic initiatives that will take bold and creative steps to increase and diversify CNA’s membership base by building brand awareness and a value proposition that speaks to nurses of all types in Canada and abroad. The CEO plays a central role in advocacy and in nurturing key relationships with a wide array of entities such as CNA members, external partners, Indigenous partners, media, multiple levels of government, and a variety of national and international nursing and related health organizations. The CEO leads CNA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and must be a vocal leader across the nursing profession in advancing DEI and ensuring that the voices of equity deserving groups are heard.
The ideal candidate is a highly credible, trusted, and dynamic leader with deep knowledge of the health system and a demonstrated track record of success in transformation and growth. They will boast several years’ experience in progressive leadership positions and must be able to demonstrate deep expertise in advocacy, marketing/branding, partnership development and member/client service. Your outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are complimented by an ability to authentically and transparently engage a diverse array of audiences, sometimes with competing interests, towards the achievement of a vision for shared success. You are highly valued for your art of the possible mindset, strong business acumen, excellent political acuity, and drive for results. You are an inspiring leader and champion of addressing barriers to equity as you build and develop teams united in a culture of agility and performance excellence at a time of unprecedented change and pressure within our health system. Proficiency in English in French as well as an active nursing license or eligibility for licensure in Canada are preferred.
