The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (CCMH at SickKids) is a child and youth mental health centre integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). CCMH at SickKids is undertaking an ambitious agenda to establish a revitalized academic community mental health centre that provides the highest quality of care, combined with excellence in teaching and community-based research. CCMH at SickKids is located across two sites in Toronto and offers both in-person and virtual care to clients and their families, from prevention and early intervention through assessment, counselling and therapy and intensive services. We are also connected to the continuum of mental health services for children and youth supported by SickKids: the Brain and Mental Health Program, the SickKids TeleLink Mental Health Program, the SickKids CCMH Learning Institute and our online resources through AboutKidsHealth. We are seeking applicants for full-time, regular Parent Child Educator positions. The successful incumbents will be responsible for the development, planning, coordination, and implementation of Prevention and Early Intervention Services for parents, caregivers, and children from prenatal to six years of age.
The successful candidate will be working primarily with our families within either our EarlyON program or in our Building Brighter Futures community site programs providing Parent Education Groups, facilitating Prenatal programs and supporting parent child programs. This position is located at our Sheppard site and in the community neighborhood of Black Creek.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides primary prevention services for children and families including developing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating services such as early learning activities, childcare, parent resources/training, pre- and post-natal resources/information and linkages to other resources
- Plans and implements new services, or modifies existing services, meeting needs of families
- Represents the Centre’s parent education services to outside agencies, groups and funding organizations in order to promote preventative/Early Years networks and provide referrals/intermediation for children and families
- Works collaboratively with team members in various community settings.
- Trains, orients and oversees the work of volunteers, students and relief childcare staff in the delivery of prevention services, as required
- Attends meetings/training related to innovative prevention services, as required
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends, and best practices within the industry
- Makes decisions related to prevention services within established policies and guidelines, as well as refers unusual or unique issues to the Supervisor/Manager

- Complies with the organization’s vision, policies and procedures
- Performs other tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma (Early Childhood Education) and a minimum of three years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Mandatory Standard First Aid and CPR
- Food handling
- Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with sensitive and confidential child and family issues
- Good problem-solving skills to provide life skills training, adult education and group facilitation
- Ability to incorporate values of a culturally competent practice of diversity and inclusiveness in all aspects of work
- Knowledge of MS Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and office equipment (telephone, scanner, photocopier and fax)
- Ability to travel to site locations within the community
- Hours of work may include evenings and weekends

- Some exposure to hazards such as falling, cuts and muscle strain from lifting
