Reporting to the Laboratory Information Manager, the incumbent provides administrative duties including; being the initial contact for patients/visitors; responsible for coordinating clinical activities to ensure the outpatient laboratory operates efficiently; creating, updating and maintaining electronic records, and interacting with various other medical professionals. The incumbent recognizes their role in creating a culturally safe environment for patients, and actively demonstrated their support, understanding and alignment with Yukon Hospitals Purpose, Vision and Values.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Knowledge of and proficiency in medical office procedures;
- Knowledge of medical terminology;
- Knowledge of computerized scheduling (Meditech);
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel and Outlook);
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with colleagues, peers, patients and families;
- Ability to organize, prioritize, adapt to workload variances and resolve work related problems;
- Ability to keep current with changes and aid in implementation of accepted change;
- Ability to interview patients/clients and obtain necessary information;
- Thoroughness and strong attention to detail;
- Ability to train and orientate other health care professionals;
- Excellent interpersonal and customer skills with ability to deal with agitated patients/family/supports and physicians;
- Cross cultural awareness;
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
- Ability to take direction from multiple sources;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Maintain monthly mandatory education required by department.
The successful applicant will have a High School Diploma and post-secondary education in Administrative Assistant/ Medical Office Assistant at a recognized college or training institution. An equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience may be considered. One year of hospital or medical office experience and experience working with Meditech (LIS) would be considered assets for this position. Trauma informed care, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training would also be desired for this position.
