March 13, 2026 (Ottawa) – HealthCareCAN, the national voice of hospitals, health authorities, health research institutes, and healthcare organizations across Canada, is pleased to welcome Michael Garron Hospital as its newest member.
Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) is a vibrant community teaching hospital serving one of Canada’s most diverse communities. For more than 90 years, they have delivered high-quality, patient-centred healthcare services to nearly 400,000 people in communities throughout, and beyond, East Toronto. Offering a wide variety of health services, the hospital has continually renewed its commitment to its community by adapting to meet the evolving needs of the diverse population it serves.
“As a community teaching hospital with a growing academic and research presence, Michael Garron Hospital brings an important voice to our national network. Their focus on integrating education, innovation and patient-centred care mirrors HealthCareCAN’s commitment to connecting policy, practice and research,” said Michelle McLean, president and CEO of HealthCareCAN. “We are pleased to welcome them as we continue building a stronger, more resilient health system for Canadians.”
Of particular note is the Hospital’s strong collaborative spirit that helps it to deliver on its commitments. Through its partnerships with two long-standing members of HealthCareCAN, The Hospital for Sick Children and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Michael Garron Hospital is able to provide the best and most current paediatric practices care closer to home, and shorter wait times for hip and knee joint replacement surgery for the communities it serves.
“At Michael Garron Hospital, research and innovation are central to how we deliver exceptional care for our community,” said Melanie Kohn, president and CEO of Michael Garron Hospital. “Joining HealthCareCAN connects us to a national network where we can contribute our expertise, learn from peers across the country, and help shape a more coordinated and equitable health system.”
By joining HealthCareCAN, Michael Garron Hospital becomes part of a national network that champions health research and innovation, health workforce development, and policy change to improve care and shape a healthier future for Canadians. Members also engage through HealthCareCAN’s national advisory committees and working groups which shape federal health policy and advance collaborative solutions across the sector.
