Sept. 3, 2021 – HealthCareCAN is extremely concerned about how Canada will manage the forth wave of COVID-19, which promises to be even more devastating than the third, based on Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam’s press statement issued on Friday September 3rd.
Canadian hospitals have not yet recovered from previous waves of COVID-19, direct care providers and professional staff are exhausted, and the health system has been tested like never before. Wait lists for surgeries and cancer treatments continue to be delayed and will be further delayed if federal, provincial and territorial governments do not heed this important warning provided today by Dr. Tam.
Dr. Tam statement calls for immediate and urgent action by all governments. “We cannot afford to be complacent and do nothing. A concerted plan must be implemented by all governments, especially now that classes are resuming, restrictions have been relaxed and hospitals were returning to some sense of normalcy.” says HealthCareCAN President and CEO Paul-Émile Cloutier. “The COVID-19 variants know no borders. Let’s use the lessons learned from previous waves and act without delay to prevent these latest dire projections.”
