For all of our readers and followers
These past two years have been harrowing, to say the least. While we now must grapple with the idea of whether we should change our plans for the upcoming holidays due to the powerful surge of another new variant, the arrival of a new year somehow takes on a whole new different meaning. While it is still a welcome opportunity for reflection, rest and renewal, our thoughts go beyond our individual selves to ponder our place in society and how we can do our collective part to address these challenges.
This holiday season, as many of us take advantage of the privilege of staying home, spending quality time with loved ones and reflecting on the events of 2021, we must not forget our health workers – the doctors, nurses, support staff, administrators and countless other health professionals who are hard at work, persevering during the most stressful time in recent memory.
With 2022 on our doorstep, our thoughts are on these individuals and indeed all Canadians who have had to contend with seemingly endless obstacles of late. Our collective hope is that the winds of winter bring the change we all so desperately need. This includes freeing up the capacity needed to care for patients whose surgeries have been canceled, bolstering supports for Canadians on the brink of burnout, and safely finding our way through this interminable pandemic.
At HealthCareCAN, protecting the people of Canada, and the most vulnerable among us, is at the heart of all we do, and we thank each and every organization and individual who has helped us in this important work. This includes our readers and followers who play an important role in sharing our messages with others.
Our collective voice is strong, and together we have the power to bring change. So, while variants may come and go, we must stay the course. That means that while many of us may be “on a break” from work, we must not let our guard down. We therefore urge you to stay strong, stay smart and stay safe… We can do this – together.
On behalf of myself and the HealthCareCAN team, I encourage you to continue making the right decisions for the sake of global health.
Sincerely,
Paul-Émile Cloutier
