President and CEO of HealthCareCAN announces retirement

President and CEO of HealthCareCAN announces retirement

Print-friendly PDF

Oct. 25, 2016 (Ottawa) – It is with mixed feelings that HealthCareCAN’s Chair of the Board announced today the retirement of much respected and appreciated President and CEO, Mr. Bill Tholl, effective June 30, 2017.

“It is difficult to sum up his achievements over the past three years as executive lead at HealthCareCAN and, indeed a career that spans over 40 years in the health sector,” said Mr. Michael Marchbank, HealthCareCAN’s Chair of the Board. “Since taking the helm, Bill has led the charge in creating a new brand in support of one strong, effective voice for the Canadian healthcare institutional community. He has brought together a talented team that has ramped up our value to members in terms of advancing science and technology in service of health; support service excellence across Canada; and developing a new cadre of healthcare leaders through CHA Learning.”

For Bill Tholl, leading HealthCareCAN is the capstone of a stellar career. Over the past 40 years, Bill has held a series of senior leadership positions, including: CEO and Secretary General of the Canadian Medical Association, CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and founding Executive Director of the Canadian Health Leadership Network. This followed almost 20 years as a federal public servant.

“His legacy of leadership in health and healthcare will live on. He will now open another chapter with friends and family. He is looking forward to spending more time with his wife Paula, their three children and their four grandchildren,” added Mr. Marchbank.

A national search is being initiated to fill the position of President and CEO of HealthCareCAN.

HealthCareCAN is the national voice of healthcare organizations and hospitals across Canada. We foster informed and continuous, results-oriented discovery and innovation across the continuum of healthcare. We act with others to enhance the health of the people of Canada; to build the capability for high quality care; and to help ensure value for money in publicly financed, healthcare programs.
