December 17, 2024 – In addition to the serious uncertainty generated by the unprecedented political events that accompanied the Dec. 16 release of the federal government’s Fall Economic Statement, HealthCareCAN is concerned that serious action to advance health research in Canada is being delayed once more.
While the federal government will need to respond quickly to current political challenges with measures such as a cabinet shuffle, HealthCareCAN continues to press for focus and urgent action to address ongoing health workforce challenges and the need for a bold strategy, vision and necessary funding that will inspire and support our country’s health researchers.
Canada needs strong federal commitment to develop a national vision to guide health research and innovation as well as research and innovation more broadly. Research and innovation are crucial to Canada’s health, social, and economic success, especially at this moment as our global peers are doubling their research ambition and investment. Canada must do the same and a vision for research is crucial at this critical time.
HealthCareCAN and its member organizations have provided clear recommendations for action and a proposed vision to guide the future of health research in Canada. We are continuing to work with all federal policymakers to bring Canadian health researchers and their institutions the support they need to tackle the country’s biggest health challenges for the benefit of people across Canada.
