Revised in 2025 by the Mental Health Commission of Canada and HealthCareCAN, the framework is helping define what high-quality, stigma-free and recovery-oriented mental health care should look and feel like for patients and for the professionals who deliver care.
HealthCareCAN’s Vice President of External Affairs, Annie Barrette, notes the goal is straightforward: improve access to high-quality, stigma-reducing mental health care while supporting the psychological health and safety of those working in clinical environments.
Built on nearly 100 interviews with people with lived and living experience, clinicians, caregivers and policy leaders, the framework is grounded in real-world expertise. Its eight dimensions of quality provide organizations with a practical lens for action.
We are proud to co-lead the Quality Mental Health Care Network and to continue advancing practical, system-level solutions that improve care and support the people who deliver it.
