Administrative Assistant – Ambulatory Care Program – Whitehorse General Hospital (#ADMIN002785)

Regular Full-Time Position – (1.0 FTE) – Anticipatory
This position is at the L05 level with an hourly pay range of $33.93 to $42.93

Our organization is an integrated system of hospitals: Whitehorse General Hospital (68 beds), Watson Lake Community Hospital (6 beds) and Dawson City Community Hospital (6 beds).

Reporting to the Manager, Ambulatory Care Program, as a collective member of the health care team, performs a variety of clerical duties related to the program area (Cancer Care/Visiting Specialist Clinic) such as booking and coordinating appointments, diagnostic tests and procedures, processing clinician orders, preparing requisitions and reception duties. Liaises with clients, physicians, hospital departments and other personnel.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Knowledge of medical office procedures, technology and terminology;
  • Knowledge of Meditech Expanse scheduling and registration processes;
  • Experience scheduling patient/client appointments;
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and adapt to workload variances;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with  MS Office products;
  • Highly motivated and innovative;
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
  • Analytical skills;
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position;
  • Cross cultural awareness.

The successful candidate should have graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program or one (1) year Medical Office Assistant Diploma and two (2) years’ experience in a Health Care office. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered. Experience with MEDITECH, Plexia

and knowledge of hospital organization and practices would be desired.
