Our client, the Government of Nunavut (GN), is seeking a visionary pharmacist-leader to serve as its Territorial Director of Pharmacy — the most senior pharmacy role in a jurisdiction unlike any other in Canada.  Based in Iqaluit and reporting to the Executive Director, Special Operations, you will be the clinical and operational lead for GN pharmacy services across all 25 Nunavut communities.

THE ROLE

You will oversee three regional pharmacies (Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, Cambridge Bay), lead the territorial Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T), Safe Medication Practices, and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees, and represent Nunavut at national tables for pharmacy and medication-related initiatives.  With a team of 9 pharmacy professionals and a $5.1M operating budget, you will shape territorial drug policy and medication safety, drive medication management quality improvement and accreditation readiness, building a safer, more equitable medication system for Nunavummiut.

Active priorities include:

  • A new Pharmacy Professions Act coming into force
  • Implementation of a Closed Loop Medication System
  • Accreditation Canada readiness for 2028

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide clinical and operational leadership for all GN pharmacy staff across the Territory
  • Manage pharmacy HR: recruitment, mentorship, performance, and Inuit employment priorities
  • Chair the P&T, Safe Medication Practices, and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees
  • Develop and enforce the GN drug formulary, and medication-related policies and procedures
  • Lead medication safety audits at community health centres across the territory
  • Oversee the $5.1M pharmacy operating budget and annual capital proposals
  • Act as Narcotic Control Officer ensuring compliance with all territorial and federal legislation
  • Drive continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and accreditation readiness
  • Represent Nunavut at Federal-Provincial-Territorial pharmacy and medication-related forums

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Sc. Pharmacy or PharmD, PEBC certification, and eligibility for registration in Nunavut
  • Hospital pharmacy experience in an acute care (or equivalent) setting
  • Proven leadership in HR management, financial budgets, and policy development
  • Experience in medication safety, quality improvement, and change management
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities (strongly preferred)
  • Systems-based thinking and strong communication skills to influence at the executive and national level

The base salary for a full-time Territorial Director of Pharmacy ranges from $130,566 to $186,524 in gross earnings plus annualized $16,328 Nunavut Northern Allowance and other eligible benefits.  Applicants may submit their CV in any of the Official Languages of Nunavut: English, French, Inuktut and Inuinnaqtun.
