HealthCareCAN is pleased to announce that its President and CEO, Mr. Paul-Émile Cloutier, has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Lobbyists, as determined by The Hill Times.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of the entire HealthCareCAN team and our member institutions, without whom we would not be able to operate,” said Mr. Cloutier. “We are ready and eager to build on this momentum as an advocate for Canadian health research and building a healthcare system that better meets the needs of the people of Canada.”
HealthCareCAN continues to be an unwavering champion for solutions to the challenges facing the healthcare system, including the need for more federal support for health research and solving health workforce shortages across the country. Over the past year, we have been building on our strong advocacy foundation, calling for a doubling of CIHR funding – which has not seen an increase since the pandemic began – in Budget 2023, which would enable researchers to fully fund research projects and implement proven solutions within the health system.
On the health human resources front, we have been using our voice to influence key federal government programs, including as a member of the Coalition for Action for Health Workers and through various Commons committee studies, two of which — in the last month alone — have echoed HealthCareCAN’s health workforce concerns and recommendations. With a workforce that is exhausted, demoralized and burning out at astronomical rates, it is crucial that governments work together, with us, to immediately follow through on these recommendations to bolster our health workforce and enhance patient care.
Beyond these areas, HealthCareCAN continues to work hard on behalf of its member organizations to motivate and guide federal action to improve mental health and substance use care, support healthy aging and older adult care, enhance children’s health care, modernize health infrastructure, and support Indigenous health and cultural safety.
“As we move forward, we thank our members for making our strong, collective voice a driver for solutions that will help us build a better system, one that works for patients, for providers, for Canada,” added Mr. Cloutier.
