Building a strong, healthy community of physicians on Prince Edward Island
The Medical Society of Prince Edward Island (MSPEI) is the professional association representing physicians across the province. As a small, agile organization with a province-wide impact, MSPEI plays a central role in shaping the environment in which physicians work and in supporting a sustainable, high-quality health system for Islanders.
MSPEI is seeking its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at a pivotal moment for the organization and the provincial health system.
MSPEI advocates for the diverse interests of its members, influences policies that strengthen the provincial health system, and supports physicians through programs that enhance their professional, economic, and personal well-being. The Society leads contract negotiations, oversees compensation and benefits frameworks, and delivers initiatives such as coaching, leadership development, peer support, and continuing professional development.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO serves as a trusted partner to physicians, Health PEI, and the PEI Department of Health and Wellness, ensuring effective implementation of the physician services agreement and advancing the Society’s strategic priorities.
This is a unique leadership opportunity to influence system-level change, strengthen physician engagement, and guide an organization committed to supporting the well-being and professional success of its members.
The CEO builds strong, trust-based relationships with physicians across the province and maintains consistent engagement with members to understand their needs and ensure MSPEI’s work reflects their priorities. They cultivate collaborative relationships across the health system, fostering alignment and shared purpose.
The CEO leads development and execution of MSPEI’s strategic plan and annual operating plans, oversees organizational operations, including budgeting, financial management, human resources, risk management, and policy development and manages a small, dedicated team to deliver high-quality programs and services. While MSPEI works remotely, the CEO and team must be visible and present for the membership and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of senior or executive leadership experience and a proven record in advocacy, negotiation, and influencing strategy and direction. They have experience in contract negotiations, ideally representing a profession or regulated group. They are familiar with regulated professions, health systems, or not-for-profit environments and bring strong financial acumen and demonstrated success in delivering organizational results. Knowledge of health-system structures and dynamics is an asset.
The CEO has exceptional communication and listening skills, high political and business acumen, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, with integrity, credibility, and a systems-thinking mindset. They have a proven ability to influence, persuade, negotiate, and manage conflict effectively and bring a collaborative leadership style grounded in respect, transparency, and accountability.
This is an exceptional opportunity to lead an impactful provincial organization with a clear mission and strong member focus.
