ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Western Zone invites applications for a full-time Rheumatologist within the Medicine Program at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL.

The Rheumatology Division offers a collegial atmosphere with clinical space and administrative support provided. On-call rotas are shared equitably among division members.

The successful candidate will join an enriched teaching environment affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. Participation in the teaching of medical students and house staff is expected.

Western Memorial Regional Hospital is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art acute care facility that opened in June 2024. The hospital serves as a 164-bed regional referral centre for Western Newfoundland, delivering a broad range of secondary and select tertiary services to a population of approximately 80,000 residents.

Corner Brook and the Western region offer an exceptional quality of life. Within minutes of Western Memorial Regional Hospital you have access to a golf course, hiking and biking trails, salmon fishing, and kayaking. In winter, world-class skiing is nearby — and in about an hour’s drive you are on the doorstep of the world-renowned Gros Morne National Park. Corner Brook also offers a thriving arts community and top-notch sporting and recreational facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
  • Successful completion of a residency in Internal Medicine
  • Fellowship training in Rheumatology
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Rheumatology (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (cpsnl.ca)
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide comprehensive rheumatology services including assessment, diagnosis, and management of inflammatory arthritis, autoimmune conditions, and musculoskeletal disorders
  • Deliver inpatient and outpatient rheumatology care
  • Participate in on-call coverage
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and allied health professionals
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador, commensurate with level of training and experience.

Available Incentives:

Eligible candidates may qualify for up to CAD 250,000 in recruitment incentives for a Return in Service Commitment, including:

  • Physician Signing Bonus — CAD 150,000
  • Come Home Incentive — CAD 100,000 (if eligibility criteria are met)
  • Relocation and immigration support
