Dec. 5, 2016 (Ottawa) – HealthCareCAN welcomes today’s announcement by Minister of Science, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan on the initiation of the search process for a Chief Science Advisor.
“This is an important milestone in the advancement of the Science Agenda in Canada,” said Mr. Bill Tholl, President and CEO of HealthCareCAN.
HealthCareCAN is pleased that Minister Duncan declared her desire to work towards ensconcing this position in legislation so that it would become an office available for future generations of scientists in Canada. We are also pleased that the Chief Science Advisor will be responsible for providing scientific advice to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Science and members of Cabinet.
“An inclusive health research and innovation ecosystem is important to the many scientists, staff and trainees that conduct a large proportion of and health and life science research within the country’s research hospitals,” added Mr. Tholl.
HealthCareCAN looks forward to the implementation of this important role and reiterate its support to Canada’s success in science for the health and prosperity of our country.
