Health workforce leaders engage on HHR priorities

Health workforce leaders engage on HHR priorities

January 30, 2025 – Members of HealthCareCAN’s Health Human Resources Advisory Committee (HHRAC) from across the country met virtually this week, discussing in detail policy priorities and solutions to help address health workforce challenges across the country.

“Our HHRAC members played a significant role in generating focus and action on health workforce issues throughout 2024 and it was great to come together again to start the year, to keep that momentum going in 2025, and leverage the insights and experience of the health leaders who are closest to the workforce challenges and needs across Canada” said HHRAC Co-Chair, Mike Northcott. “We need these voices together so that we can continue to demonstrate to the federal government the ongoing value of our partnership in making improvements to our health workforce.”

In addition to a very well-attended in-person meeting of the full HHRAC in Ottawa last June, members of the committee continue to engage on emerging health workforce issues, sharing best practices and organizational policies, and providing input into HealthCareCAN advocacy on workforce issues. Committee members have also brought their expertise and experience to federal initiatives to help address health workforce challenges, including Health Workforce Canada, which held its first national symposium in Montréal in late October.

“HHRAC members have been very clear and consistent in prioritizing the issue of collection, validation and sharing of better workforce data across the country,” said Susan McGillivray, HHRAC Co-Chair. “As we continue to work in close collaboration with Health Workforce Canada, supporting development of data-informed workforce strategies and planning will be a key area of focus.”

The next full virtual meeting of the HealthCareCAN HHRAC will take place on April 7, 2025 and the annual in-person meeting is in Ottawa June 10-11, 2025. For more information please email: membership@healthcarecan.ca.
