POSITION SUMMARY
The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Extensive Needs Service (ENS) is a new service developed to address the needs of children and youth whose extensive and complex needs surpass the capacity of our existing healthcare system. The Extensive Needs Service (ENS) brings a multidisciplinary team around a family to rapidly implement an intervention plan aimed at addressing the needs of the family as a whole. We are building a dedicated pathway for the most vulnerable children and youth up to 18 years of age with complex needs.
The Registered Dietitian offers nutrition counseling to Extensive Needs Service patients and families. The Dietitian functions as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team and attends and participates in patient rounds and conferences with medical, nursing and allied health personnel. The dietitian is a member of the CHEO Discipline of Dietitians.
The successful incumbent will provide services at CHEO’s off-site locations with the possibility of in-home services in the following areas: Ottawa, Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, Prescott Russell, and Renfrew area, as required. Services could be provided either virtually or in person depending on the situations.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides initial and follow-up nutritional counseling to patients and families
- Plans the nutritional care for patients on therapeutic and modified diets, maintains current and accurate patient diet information records and provides instructions for patients and families concerning dietary aspects of treatment
- Provides pertinent nutrition information to individuals over the telephone as required.
- Extensive teaching of families and other health care professionals including dietetic interns.
- Continuous learning to develop expertise in the specialties
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics (Essential)
- Member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario (Essential)
- Member of the Dietitians of Canada (Preferred)
- SOS Feeding therapist (or SOS Feeding therapy certification) (Preferred)
- Certification in CPR and First Aid (Essential)
- Successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship (Essential)
- Experience with picky eating population (Preferred)
- Demonstrate excellent interdisciplinary team work (Essential)
- Excellent interpersonal and teaching skills (Essential)
- Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle (Essential)
- Candidates must be willing to travel and provide services to clients throughout Eastern Ontario as required (Essential)
- Flexible hours including evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
